Who runs the scan
Erseni runs scan.erseni.com, a check of single websites for privacy, security, accessibility and legal basics. The operator is named in the imprint.
02 What
What is fetched
A scan starts when someone enters an address on scan.erseni.com, when a customer has set up a recurring check of their site, or for the public ranking of selected websites.
- The start page is opened in an ordinary Chrome browser, once more over plain http to check the redirect to https, and again for single checks such as rejecting a cookie banner. A limited number of subpages follows, such as the imprint, the privacy policy and the contact page.
- robots.txt, the sitemap and the legal pages are fetched with the identifier ErseniQuickscan/1.0, alongside DNS, mail and TLS queries.
- No bulk fetching, no login attempts and no attempt to exploit a vulnerability. Buttons are clicked only where a visitor would click them too, for example the reject button of a cookie banner.
- Email fields get a made-up address under example.invalid typed in, without submitting, to see whether third parties read the input.
03 From where
The addresses the requests come from
116.202.25.194 carries the reverse name probe.erseni.com. If a page is rejected from there, the scan repeats the request once from the second address. To allow the scan, allow both addresses.
