01 The law
The Barrierefreiheitsstärkungsgesetz (BFSG) transposes the European Accessibility Act into German law. It covers online shops, banking and payment services, booking and ticketing and many consumer-facing services, among others. The technical benchmark is WCAG 2.1 AA, via the European standard EN 301 549.
Microenterprises (fewer than 10 employees and no more than 2 million euros in annual turnover or balance sheet total) are exempt for services. Whether an exemption applies in a specific case should be assessed professionally.
Not sure whether the BFSG applies to you? Read our guide on who is affected.
02 The risk
Compliance is monitored by the market surveillance authorities of the federal states. Breaches can lead to complaints, orders and fines, and may also trigger competition-law warnings. Addressing accessibility early lowers this risk and reaches more people. These are general risk notes, not legal advice.
03 The instant check
The check runs automated tests against WCAG 2.1 AA and reports where your website meets the requirements and where it falls short:

05 Frequently asked
The BFSG covers many consumer-facing products and services, including online shops, banking and booking systems. Microenterprises are exempt for services. Whether you are specifically affected depends on your offering and company size and should be assessed case by case.
The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.1 are the international standard for accessible websites. Conformance level AA is the benchmark used across Europe (via EN 301 549) and covers contrast, keyboard operation, text alternatives and a clear page structure, among other things.
No. The instant check provides automated risk notes and finds many common issues, but it does not replace a manual audit or legal advice. Some WCAG criteria can only be assessed reliably with human judgement.
The instant check is free and needs no sign-up. If you want complete, prioritised findings, the accessibility statement generator or ongoing monitoring, the Pro and Agency plans cover that.
